Citizens Advice Medway is a registered charity that offers free, independent and impartial advice to the whole of Medway on a range of issues including Housing, Welfare Benefits, Employment, Debt, Family Law and many others.
Dealing with money worries and debts can be a scary process, and sometimes the first step towards taking debt advice is the hardest.
The Money Advice Service Debt Advice Project (MAS) is available to anyone who is experiencing financial difficulties. The projectís main purpose is to equip our clients with the knowledge and ability to empower themselves to manage their finances on their own.
You'll first need to go through an Initial Check to determine if your case can be referred to our MAS project. If we can, we'll support you through the process of managing your debts so that you know how much you can afford to pay and which debts are the most important ones to focus on. Instead of worrying alone, contact us and we can help you feel more in control of the situation. The MAS project offers a appointments over the phone and in person.
Alternatively, email the team direct on MASDAP@medwayadvice.org.uk to find out about arranging an appointment.
In a debt advice session the MAS Project Worker will discuss your situation and fully assess your needs thereby leading to a recommended course of action for that will improve your state of affairs and ultimately aim to lead to a resolution. For example this can be done through methods such as self-help, discussing insolvency options or referral to another free money advice organisation who can provide ongoing support if necessary.
The project can help negotiate with creditors on the clientís behalf to arrange affordable monthly repayments but it is the clientís responsibility to ensure these payments are kept up.
We will signpost you to an external specialist debt agency for help in rare cases where we cannot assist. For example, we cannot do bankruptcy petitions.
This simple budget planner can help you manage your money particularly if you are on low income.
