Support for the people of Medway

The Local Welfare Provision (LWP) is part of the system of local schemes created in 2013 to replace the discretionary Social Fund. The LWP is overseen and administered by the local city council. The LWP doesn't give cash directly to individuals. Instead, the LWP liaisons with non-profits and technocrats to pay for goods, services, and assistance to help you. A number of these nonprofits have connections throughout the community served by us at the LWP. They may have ties with civic groups, religious institutions, corporations, or service organizations. We coordinate the role of all the interested parties. We assist you by helping you get to stability as quickly as possible.

How does the LWP assist you?

Here at the LWP, we help people who are in crisis. People who meet this requirement could have their personal health (or that of a loved one) in jeopardy. Housing or food may also be at a critical juncture requiring immediate assistance. Our goal is to help you maintain a place in your local community. To access the aid available as quickly as possible, circumstances that are well documented and shown to us make the process easier.

To be eligible for help from the LWP, the following criteria needs to be met:

You must live within the council area
You must be able to receive Council Tax support
Either you or a household member is at serious risk of health and/ or safety
If you are in a vulnerable situation and need help to live independently
You have no other resources which are available to you

How to get in touch

Like many government and private organizations during the global pandemic, the LWP has been strained. However we are still doing our best to use all available resources to help those who need them, so please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
